Dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1992
Křivánek, Adam ; Lovaš, Karol (advisor) ; Gulda, Jana (referee)
My bachelor thesis deals with the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1992. Its main part is a radio podcast with a total length of twenty-five minutes and fifty-two seconds, and it aims to bring the complex subject matter to generations born after the events of the early 1990s. In the output, however, I do not only focus on events closely associated with this particular historical period. Instead, from the position of a narrator, based on the knowledge of a high school student, I go through the history of the Czech and Slovak Republics. In doing so, I am looking in particular for the causes and consequences of the dissolution. But in order to avoid plain and boring narrative, my speech is supplemented by numerous archive records and background music. In addition, the podcast is interspersed with answers to my questions from the relevant experts. In an interview recorded especially for this thesis, a historian clarifies key historical contexts and a former high-ranking politician outlines the moods that moved society at the time. A theoretical section also accompanies the work. One of its purposes is to explain what the term podcast means and why I have chosen this particular format. Another is to place the relations between the Czech and Slovak nations in the necessary historical context. Thus, the...

Poetry of Ludvík Kundera
Hubená, Ester ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Wiendl, Jan (referee)
The thesis focuses on the poetry of Ludvík Kundera. It introduces his work in chronological order and within the contemporary literary-historical framework. The analysis and the interpretation of his early poems often refer to the war period. Language and its potentiality are a main concern in Kundera's other work. His poetry is defined in the context of avant-garde modern art: surrealism, dadaism and expressionism. The thesis researches the impact of Brecht's poetics on Kundera, too. It also introduces the persona of the artist, who significantly contributed to forming the Czech literary field during the second half of the 20th century. Kundera's poetry relates to Czech and foreign artists and their works. The poems rise from ordinary occasions, as well as showing the poet's intertextual approach. Experimentation, wordplay, lyrical humour and irony are an inherent part of Ludvík Kundera's work.

Great Britain between 1918-1945. Paper on british economic and regional policy.
Smetana, Martin ; Toth, Petr (advisor) ; Kouřilová, Jana (referee)
Master's thesis focuses on the British economy in the first half of the 20th century and examines the most important components of the economic and regional policy in this period. The aim of the work is to discover the main impact of the first and second world war on the economy of Great Britain while emphasizing the role of the arising regional policy in this period. An evaluation of the most important macroeconomical indicators is performed to fulfil the aim of the work. Results of this paper show that the First World War led to the decline of traditional industries. This was supported in the inter-war years by the decrease of demand, high real wages and overvaluation of the pound while returning to the gold standard. Because the employment was mainly concentrated in the declining industries, which were regionally located, regional disparities in the country increased. The high unemployment in these regions led to the beginnings of state controlled regional policy. However significant decrease of the unemployment was only achieved with the mobilisation of the economy during the Second World War and the impact of new growing industries in the fifties.
Production and distribution of Czechoslovak trams in the eighties of twentieth century
Daniel, Josef ; Szobi, Pavel (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
This paper focuses on the situation at the ČKD -- Tatra Smíchov plant during the nineteen eighties. It reacts to the situation where this topic is the subject of technical and popular literature. My desire is to look more deeply into the matter and to expand on this information from an economic-financial point of view. The paper briefly examines the origins and activities of the business, then the situation in the 1980s is described and analysed in greater detail. The focus of analysis is directed primarily on export to the Soviet Union and the influence this had on the product portfolio. Then the work looks at the construction of new premises. Afterwards, the effect of export on the domestic market is analysed, including for instance the mutual relations with the Prague Transport Corporation. The paper includes a history of the corporation in the words of and from the point of view of former staff members.
